yin yoga at just plain yoga studioAmrit Yoga Nidra-with certified yoga nidra teacher, Paul Herzer E-RYT-500

Amrit Yoga based guided relaxation for stress relief & rejuvenation

A paradigm shift from thinking and doing to feeling and being. During sleep, we drop beneath mental and emotional activity. Yoga Nidra literally means “yogic sleep.” In the meditative experience of yoga nidra, we transcend self-created perceptions and limitations. Sleep takes us below the mind, and meditation carries us beyond the mind.

Through a unique combination of alert awareness and profound relaxation, Yoga Nidra works by immersing the practitioner, simultaneously accessing the power of the logical left-brain and the intuitive right brain to align the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems back to homeostasis.

The Amrit Method of Yoga Nidra requires neither years of practice nor intellectual understanding. With focused attention  unconsciously held obstructions and energetic blockages are released, freeing you to actualize your intentions and live to your true potential.

About Paul: After 10 years and thousands of hours practicing the few authentic styles of Yoga Nidra, Paul trained directly under Yogi Amrit Desai in the Amrit Method Yoga Nidra. Amrit Desai is the last living yoga Grand Master; he and Dr. Kamini Desai developed Yoga Nidra over the last 25 years blending ancient wisdom with modern science. Paul was then personally invited to participate in the first Advanced Yoga Nidra Facilitator Training. He is a certified Master Yoga Nidra Facilitator and leads Amrit Yoga Nidra meditations all over the world.

2017 workshops and events:

Introduction to Sanskrit Level 2 May 2017

with Erik Marrero, E-RYT 500

PERFECTLY REFINED, Sanskrit is the language of yoga. Anyone can resonate with Sanskrit's timeless sounds—and connect to words and ideas incredibly beautiful and profound.

REWARDS ARE MANY for those who take the time to see, hear and feel the power and elegance of Sanskrit. Those interested in yoga philosophy particularly benefit from this study.

This Level II weekend workshop will help you continue to refine your understanding of the unique points of resonance in your own palate. And you'll also continue to refine the proper pronunciation of this inspiring ancient language.  Along the way you'll learn to read compound consonants, continue reading and begin to practice writing. You'll receive the tools you need to continue in depth exploration of your favorite sutras and chants in the beautiful script of Sanskrit, Devanāgarī. ASI's teaching method, developed over many years by Vyaas Houston, makes learning Sanskrit stress-free and FUN!

Erik Marrero, e-ryt 500 began his study of Sanskrit in 2008 in a Sanskrit Immersion Weekend with Zoe Mai of the American Sanskrit Institute.  He was amazed that by the end of the second day, he was able to read Sanskrit words.  The ASI learning model made that possible. In July 2011, with Zoe as his teacher, Erik joined Trishula Yoga's weekly Sanskrit study group focusing on chanting and studying the Yoga Sutras, Bhagavad Gita, and other texts, as well as chanting the Sanskrit alphabet and Maheshvara Sutras.

Pranayama Workshop June 10th

with Paul Herzer, E-RYT-500

Everyone breathes.
Since birth you've been breathing.
How and when should you be breathing in Yoga?

Pranayama (breathing exercises) aren't often taught to depth  in asana classes. Much of the available information is confusing or contradictory. In this class you will be taught and experience seven breathing techniques.

Ample time will be given for practice and questions, as well as descriptions and contraindications, benefits, precautions and special circumstances. Knowledge of asana is not required, this class is designed for experienced yoga practitioners and teachers.

About Paul: Your workshop leader: Acharya Shambhu Anand (Paul Herzer) E-RYT-500 has studied with Yoga masters, asking "why?" "what does this do" and "where should my hands be?"   An internationally recognized yogi, Paul is a teacher in the Kripalu-Amrit Yoga traditions and is a senior student of the last living Yoga Master from the 1960s, Yogi Amrit Desai. Though Paul has enjoyed practicing multiple yoga and meditation styles in the past 15 years he is certified to teach Kripalu Yoga, Amrit Level I, Amrit Level II and is a registered Yoga Nidra Facilitator. Paul travels the East Coast deepening his practice through his love of learning and teaching.

When not teaching or studying with Amrit Desai, Paul can be found chanting with Bhagavan Das, meditating with honey bees or pondering the mysteries of the Universe. He is lovingly grateful for all his teachers both far and near.

About Corina:

Corina Benner, Director of Wake Up Yoga, wholeheartedly believes that the ancient practice of yoga perfectly complements our modern pursuit of vibrant health, personal fulfillment, harmonious relationships and spiritual enrichment.

Viewing asana practice as an entry-point to self-study, Corina weaves the tenets of yoga philosophy into her teaching, inspiring students to discover how this age-old practice remains relevant today in their own lives both on and off the mat. Her positive vibrations and contagious optimism empower students of all levels to practice with enthusiasm, while her detailed instruction, poetic language and intelligent sequencing create a safe space for students to explore the landscapes of their body, mind, heart and soul. As a Teacher of Teachers Corina seeks to impart a deep and abiding reverence for the power of yoga, while also affirming her students’ unique experiences which give rise to his/her own authentic voice, and inspiring them to cultivate a sharp and discriminating mind that is softened by an open and receptive heart. In 2002, she opened Wake Up Yoga, inspired to create a warm and nurturing cOMmUNITY-centered yoga studio where people of all ages, stages, colors and flavors could come together with breath and movement, in silence and in laughter, to deeply connect with the underlying current that unites us all. She has been teaching a 200-hour Foundational Training since 2002, and Yin Yoga Teacher Trainings since 2005, and has taught both programs locally, nationally and internationally.

In addition to her initial training, Corina’s teachings and understanding of yoga have been influenced by more than 100 hours of Teacher Training with Rodney Yee; more than 70 hours of Teacher Training with Shiva Rea; and 270 hours of Teacher Training with Paul Grilley. As one of her primary teachers, Paul Grilley has imparted a deep respect for anatomical difference, which is the guiding principle behind alignment instructions in Yin Yoga. Corina’s understanding of chakras has been informed through study with Paul Grilley, and also nearly 50-hours of Training with Anodea Judith, and a 4-day Training with Kristine Kaoverii Weber . She has been a student of Sanskrit under the expert tutelage of Manorama, of Sanskrit Studies, and has been working on memorizing, chanting and writing the Yoga Sutra of Patanjali in Sanskrit with help and guidance from both Manorama and Paul JJ Alix, of Yoga for All. Corina recently completed a 500 hour Yoga Therapeutics Teacher Training at the IHYT in Ontario, Canada, exploring therapeutic applications of yoga to treat; anxiety and depression, cancer and end-of-life care, chronic pain and grief, along with study of structural alignment, and Ayurveda. She has been strongly influenced by Tibetan Buddhism and the teachings of Chogyam Trungpa as imparted largely by her Meditation Teacher, Michael Carroll, and has been fortified by a steady meditation practice since 1999. Her mind and perspectives have also been shaped by the writings of J. Krishnamurti, and her heart has been opened through the beautiful poetry of Rumi, Hafiz, Rilke, and Mary Oliver, just to name a few.
